Itzá Angélica García

Continuo

I created this piece from an improvisation on a Moog Voyager Synthesizer. The immersive sounds create a slow evolution where music appears to be static, yet small changes in the discourse reveal an energetic inner life. Continuo invites the listener to be a part of the sound event, to inhabit it.

Itzá García (born in México, 1993) graduated with honors from the Master’s degree in Composition of the Universidad Veracruzana, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo León.
Her works have been played by ensembles such as the Orquesta Sinfonica de la UANL, the Orquesta de Camara de la Facultad de Musica UANL, and the Orquesta Universitaria de Musica Popular de la Universidad Veracruzana. Her passion for academic concert music impulsed her to make the archive of the Composition Department of UANL’s Music Faculty in 2016, cataloging over 1500 works composed from 1989 to 2016 and making the document collection available for inquiry. Since 2014 she has been host and co-producer of the radio show Universo Estetico, dedicated to the divulgation of contemporary music. She worked as coordinator of international affairs for the Orquesta Sinfonica de la UANL and since 2016 has presented “pre-concert talks” aimed to promote music appreciation. She has received academic distinctions such as the Centro de Compositores de Nuevo Leon Grant 2016-2017 and the CONACYT Scholarship for graduate studies in México 2018-2020.
Itzá is a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Garcia Robles Scholarship (2020-2022), and currently pursues a PhD in Music Composition at the City University of New York.
